I (heart)
I (heart) a lot of things. Here are a few of my favorites right now:
HitKast
HitKast is my at-work radio station, or should I say “radio stations.” A while ago, my company blocked Pandora, which made me cry tears of desperation. How could I do without the music genome project? Enter HitKast, with more than 40 radio stations. When I need to write, the Chill station is my favorite. Other times I’m listening to the Adult Alternative station, which is very similar to my treasured KBCO, or maybe the Folk station, or the Rogers and Hammerstein channel. Craving French pop? HitKast has a station for that too. The diversity of the music at the click of a button is why I majorly (heart) HitKast.
All Out Of Pad
I stumbled upon this great idea on Delight.com three years ago. Every week, before I’d go to the grocery store, I’d look through the cabinets to figure out what I should buy. Inevitably, I wound up forgetting something critical (pancake syrup) and buying yet another can/box/crate of items I already had a dozen of. I’d come home, and Steve would say, “Hey, did you remember X?” No, I did not remember X because the word X never came out of your mouth. The All Out Of Pad solves all of these problems for me. Run out of something? Check it on the list. Don’t need any more of something? Scratch it off. At $7.50, this makes an excellent, useful gift. My parents and siblings, close friends and colleagues all have them on their fridges (the pad has a big, strong magnet on the back).
Blinc Mascara
I have sensitive, allergic eyes that tend to get watery. Which, of course, means anything but waterproof mascara winds up making me look like a cheap hooker after a full night. But I hate waterproof mascara, because it means I need yet another product to take it off with.
A few years ago, I was complaining to an aesthetician about this situation and she gave me a sample of Blinc. This mascara–which L’Oreal is now ripping off but with poor quality–quite simply RAWKS. You put on 2 coats, allowing about 30 seconds of drying in between. The mascara forms tubes around your lashes that don’t come off unless you apply:
- warm water and
- light pressure
I also love the Blinc lash primer, which adds fibers to your lashes to make them a bit longer. It too needs warm water and light pressure to be removed, but no additional eye makeup solvents.
This is the only product I’ve found that doesn’t irritate my eyes, doesn’t smudge, and is easy to take off. It’s not cheap at $25 per tube. And it only lasts about 4 months before it becomes unusable. However, you’re supposed to replace mascara about every 4 months anyway so it keeps you honest. I’ll be a Blinc fan for a long, long time.
